How Staeger’s use of recycled feedstock continues to create jobs and prevent ocean plastic pollution

Share

By now you may know about Staeger’s partnership with POP (Prevented Ocean Plastic) and the fact that we use it in our feedstock. POP is packaging made from recycled plastic that is collected from coastal areas, which are at risk of ocean plastic pollution. The Prevented Ocean Plastic is preventing over 1000 tons of plastic polluting the ocean monthly and growing.

POP is committed to recycling culture change. The movement creates jobs for the increasing supply of recycled plastic for the ever growing supply chain. Recently there has been a great new partnership investing in waste collection infrastructure. These infrastructures are being placed in areas of the world that have never had infrastructure like this before and a new one has been announced for Southeast Asia. Which is a great way to start the new year!

Prevented Ocean Plastic Southeast Asia is committed to their strategy to stop the plastic waste from leaking into the ocean and create jobs across Indonesia. There are more than 124 million people, 45% of Indonesia’s population that live outside of the country’s economic centre. Usually it is too expensive to collect waste from islands that are outside of the main population centres. The new investment plans to create twelve collection centres and three aggregation centres for communities in need of jobs across Indonesia.

In a ten year period it is estimated that the project will help prevent four hundred thousand tonnes of plastic from entering the ocean, and avoid twice the amount of GHG emissions.

Recently Staeger used Prevented Ocean Plastic RPET to make visors for our NHS heroes. Here at Staeger we are happy to be a part of creating a greener future.
