Further Investment...Clear Tube Machines for Coventry

<shortdescription>
Exciting new investment for tube production...
</shortdescription>

When we joined the Staeger Group in 2008, the principals of the business gave a commitment to invest in facilities and equipment that would enable expansion into different markets and help seize new and suitable opportunities.........already machinery to produce welded lids and bases has been installed and we are now preparing to receive the first of a series of lines for the production of transparent tubes and drums.

The first machine will be for smaller diameters from 35 to 80mm and soon to follow will be a second line with capability for diameters from 65mm to 180mm. Height adjustments can be made without the need for additional tooling, although bespoke diameters will need special parts.

All our machines are designed and built by the on site engineering team at Group HQ, Muri, Switzerland and feature welded side seams with cut discs welded to seal the base – no adhesive is used in the process which makes it ideal for direct food contact.

Converting mainly re-cycled PET [rPET], also suitable for direct food contact, tubes and drums can be decorated by litho or screen printing, hot foil blocking or simply left plain to suit the brand image.

A variety of lids are available, subject to size and function, including tinplate, injection moulded plastic and thermoformed.........special lids can be tooled up if required
Tube tops can be left clean cut or beaded to provided extra rigidity.

Coventry based personnel have already completed an operators training course in Switzerland and production will commence very soon following a substantial commitment from an existing customer.

Staeger Clear Packaging Invests In New Lid And Base Equipment

<shortdescription></shortdescription>

Following the acquisition by the Stäeger Group of Companies, Stäeger Clear Packaging has now announced the first phase of investment in new equipment at its Coventry location.

The Company has recently installed equipment capable of producing transparent lids and bases in a variety of substrates and sizes. This was designed and purpose built in Switzerland, by the company’s on-site engineering and development team.

Traditionally, lids and bases are produced from manually punched blanks which are then glued at the corners, meaning only PVC can be used. As this new machine involves welding the corners, a wider range of materials, including Polypropylene, RPET and APET can now be converted and various sizes are available. Furthermore, by welding die cut blanks, it is easier to control the tolerances of the finished component.

There is also an environmental benefit from this method of production as no adhesives or chemical solvents are used in the process.

Prior to die cutting and welding, the blanks can be decorated to customer’s artwork by litho printing, screen printing, hot foil blocking and embossing, or in combinations of all these.

Stäeger Clear Packaging is excited by the opportunities which the new equipment will provide.

Managing Director Ian Jamie said: “This is the first phase of a planned investment programme, following our acquisition by the Stäger Group. We are committed to offering the UK market a range of new products, with innovation the key factor. There will be further developments in this respect over the coming months”.

Stäeger Clear Packaging is one of the UK’s leading plastic carton, lid, base and sleeve producers. It has introduced many innovations into the market including the environmentally friendly CLEArPET™, made from 50/60% post consumer bottle waste.

The Company is a finalist in the 2008 UK Packaging Awards, in the “The Company of the Year” category.
